After a comprehensive search, the
Board of Directors of the Tileston Health Clinic (www.tilestonclinic.org) is pleased to announce the appointment of John Devaney as the new Executive Director of the
clinic. His appointment becomes effective April 19, 2010.
John Devaney brings a
15-year background in non-profit health care and human services. His career portfolio includes work with organizations serving
the needs of many different constituencies. He spent more than eight years at the Whitman-Walker Clinic of Northern Virginia
where he held various management positions including Director, and oversaw the operations of the largest non-profit HIV/AIDS
clinic in Virginia, serving thousands of individuals a year with a staff of 25 and volunteer corps of over 300.
John created and held the position of Director of Operations for The Legal
Aid Society of the District of Columbia (LAS-DC), the oldest and largest legal services organization in Washington, DC and
was Vice President of Operations and Development for a healthcare and human services firm. John holds a BS in Sociology from
Longwood University.
Tileston Health Clinic, which was founded in 1991, provides acute and chronic care to patients
in a six-county area who otherwise would receive inadequate health care or no health care at all. The patient population
is approximately 60% Hispanic, 20% African-American, and 20% Caucasian and other. The Clinic provides dental,
medical, pharmaceutical and psychological services by over 200 qualified volunteers and a full time staff of five. Close to
4,000 patients were served in 2009.
The Executive Director’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
motivating and directing the operations of the Tileston Health Clinic which provides free health care service to the
low income, uninsured in our area; managing the staff and volunteers; overseeing and participating in program
development and implementation; generating clinic funding through grant writing and developing donor relations within the
community; collaborating with other health care providers to address community needs and best utilization of collective resources;
setting policy and procedures for all clinic and administrative issues; and serving as a liaison between the clinic and the
Board of Directors.
